FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
TEACHER IS STANDING,
IN FRONT OF ME
READY NOW CHILDREN
1, 2, 3
SHE KEEPS ON TALKING,
ABOUT THIS AND THAT
THEN OUT OF NOWHERE,
POPS A PINK CAT
THE PINK CAT STARTS,
TO BOUNCE ON IT*S TAIL
THEN THROUGH THE AIR,
IT REALLY DID SAIL
I STARED AT THE CAT,
THE CAT STARED BACK
WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE,
SUDDENLY, WHACK!
MY BLUE EYES BLINKED ONCE,
THEN TWICE MORE
I SUDDENLY FIND MYSELF,
LAID ON THE FLOOR
IT SEEMED I HAD FALLEN,
PLUM FAST ASLEEP
THE TEACHER DID LEAVE ME,
AND MADE NOT A PEEP
THE OTHER KIDS LAUGHED,
AS I STOOD TALL AND STRAIGHT
THEY GIGGLED THROUGH FINGERS,
KNOWING MY FATE
*TO THE CORNER YOUNG MAN*,
THE TEACHER DID RULE
IT WAS THEN THAT I SPOTTED,
A GREEN FURRY MULE
I STOOD WITH MY NOSE,
STUCK STRAIGHT TO THE WALL
TAKING QUICK GLANCES,
AT THE FOOL IN THE HALL
THE MULE STARTED SINGING,
OPERA NO LESS
IT DIDN*T REALLY SOUND THAT BAD,
I TRULY MUST CONFESS
THE DONKEY FLOATED INTO SPACE,
AND EVERYTHING WAS BLACK
I VERY NEARLY GRABBED HIS TAIL,
WHEN ALL AT ONCE THWACK!
MY BIG BLUE EYES POPPED,
AND MUCH TO MY DISMAY
THE CORNER WAS NOT AT MY NOSE,
AND ON THE FLOOR I LAY
THE TEACHER GRABBED MY EAR SO
TIGHT,
AND MARCHED ME DOWN THE HALL
BANGING ON THE HEADMASTERS* DOOR,
IT APPEARED TO ME SO TALL
SHE LEFT ME THERE TO FACE MY DOOM,
AND SEAL MY AWFUL FATE
WHEN ALL AT ONCE A YELLOW COW,
JUMPED THE GARDEN GATE
I RUBBED MY EYES WITH FISTS SO
TIGHT,
AND TOOK ANOTHER GLANCE
THE COW JUST SMILED AND CLICKED
IT*S HEELS,
AND DID A LITTLE DANCE
*YOUNG MAN!* A VOICE BOOMED FROM
ABOVE
WHICH MADE ME JUMP SO HIGH
*YOU*VE* FALLEN FAST ASLEEP AGAIN!*
AND I DID START TO CRY
*I*M SORRY SIR*,
I HEARD MYSELF, STARTING TO PROTEST
*I WILL NOT DO IT ANYMORE,
I*LL REALLY TRY MY BEST!*
THEN AS HE STARTED TO REPLY
MY EYES CAUGHT SUCH A SIGHT
THERE STOOD A MOUSE WITH SKIN SO
BLUE
AND HE DID FLY A KITE!
I SHOOK MY HEAD, AND TAPPED MY
BRAIN
MY EYES LOOKED STRAIGHT AHEAD
BUT I JUST SAID *TO HECK WITH IT*
AND DREAMED I WAS IN BED!

"Love"
My mom turns on the T.V.
and I don’t understand what I see
People hurting one another
So, I ask my mother
How could this be,
Why can’t we all be free
Mother says we are suppose to
love one another.
God’s hands are Love
He gives us blessings
from above.
I have friends of many colors
And we all get along with one
another.
Mom doesn’t watch the news anymore
She says there is too much gore
I may just be a kid
But if they listened to what we said
Maybe they could learn from us
And maybe they would stop the fuss
And follow what our God states
And maybe they could clean the slate
To start anew sister to sister
brother to brother
And learn to Love one another
If they listened to what we said
I think everyone would win
And like kids, just be friends
But what do I know
In years I have a long way to go
I know I won’t be like them
Love is the message I will send

School Blues
I got the back to school blues
Out with the old and in with the new
Summertime is gone away
And now it is back to them old school days
Reading writing
Spelling and arithmetic
Millimeters, grams
Ounces and metrics
Absorbing
What is taught, knowledge
Learning all that I can
And maybe one day I will go to college
More and more
School books
Homework and exams
And teacher's looks
Physical education
Builds a body's foundation
English and writing skills
Strengthen verbal communication
Only just yesterday
I and my friends were at play
Hanging at the playground
Enjoying the summertime sounds
But now it is school time
Once again
The jump rope and basketball
Is now exchanged for a pencil paper or pen
School blues.
